Trans Mountain Bursary Program

The Town of Hinton is awarding bursaries to students in trades, technology and environmental programs related to the pipeline industry.

As part of the Community Project Agreement signed with Trans Mountain Pipeline L.P. in 2020, Trans Mountain Pipeline L.P.  granted the Town of Hinton $50,000 as education funding to be awarded to students in a vein of study that relates to the pipeline industry. From that fund, the Town is now awarding up to 18 bursaries of $2,800 between 2024 and 2028 to students who are starting or continuing post-secondary education.

This bursary program commences for award in 2024 and ends in 2028, or until the fund has been fully subscribed, whichever comes first.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Residents of Hinton or parents, legal guardians, or the applicant currently own property in Hinton, and the applicant must have lived in Hinton within the last ten years.
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years of age.
  • Full-time students enrolled in post-secondary courses in a recognized and accredited post-secondary educational institution.
    • Programs of study include trades, technology, and environmental programs related to the pipeline industry. Each applicant will be required to provide verifiable documentation showing how their chosen field of study aligns with criteria set out by Trans Mountain Pipeline L.P.

Enrollment

  • Applicants must be considered a full-time student in the program they are registered to attend or are currently attending. 
  • Post-secondary courses must constitute part of a post-secondary degree, diploma or trades certification, excluding upgrading or courses offered as part of any high school diploma program.
  • Applicants are eligible to apply for bursary support for up to three (3) years, providing they are progressing towards completion of the program submitted in the originally approved application.

Applicants must submit the following supporting documents along with the official bursary application:

  1. Proof of enrollment or acceptance from a post-secondary institution.
  2. Official Financial Needs Assessment Form (linked here).
  3. One submission of third party documentation confirming program alignment with pipeline industry, including, but not limited to the following:
    1. Recent career posting by pipeline company noting program being taken in the qualification section of advertisement.
    2. Industry brochure requesting specific post-secondary education stream.
    3. Post-secondary institution and/or Apprenticeship and Industry Training in Alberta brochure aligning the program with the pipeline industry.
  4. Written Personal Alignment Statement of no more than 100 words providing details on how the chosen discipline in the trades, technology, or environmental programs, supports and aligns with the pipeline industry.
