Accessible Swimming Options

The Town of Hinton aims to ensure that all of our residents, regardless of disability, are able to enjoy our facilities.  In our pool facility, we have a number of options to help increase accessibility including:

  • Ramp access to pool areas
  • Swing lift access and exiting, and staff trained in its operation
  • Therapy tools

These implements are always available on request to pool staff, however do take some set up time.

We are also proud to be able to offer ‘Accessible Swimming’ slots on Monday-Thursday 10:00am-11:30am and Monday-Wednesday 1:00pm-2:00pm. These times slot will only be available if the pool does not have any school swimming lessons booked - call 780-865-4412 to confirm.

Recommended Swim Test

The Lifesaving Society's recommended swim test is a screening tool used at our facility to determine who can use the deep part of our pool without a life jacket or personal flotation device (PFD). It is to the discretion of the lifeguard(s) on duty as to who must perform the swim test for admission to the deep water. The swim test consists of the following sequence of skills:

  1. Safe entry into shallow water
  2. Swim 25 metres without stopping or resting in any style
  3. Exit the pool from deep water
  4. Jump (foot-first entry) into deep water
  5. Recover and tread water for 30 seconds, maintaining mouth and nose above the water at all times

What Your Toddler Should Wear

All tots younger than 35 months are required to wear a swim diaper while using our facility. Pool pants may be purchased at the Customer Service Desk. Parents, please remember to stay within arm's reach of your child at all times.
