Town of Hinton received $8.6 M in grants in 2025

In 2025, the Town of Hinton received more than $8.6 million through 17 grants, helping reduce reliance on local tax dollars, expand community programs, and create meaningful job opportunities for youth. 

“This funding allows us to deliver important services, support our most vulnerable residents, and invest in the long‑term safety and well‑being of our community,” said Mayor Brian LaBerge.  

How the funding made an impact 

  • Youth opportunities:A municipal intern and multiple youth summer student positions
  • Emergency preparedness:A Hinton‑based Wildland Urban Interface Support Team,FireSmart™ activities, updates to the wildfire preparedness guide, and development of a 10‑year wildfire mitigation strategy
  • Community celebrations:Alberta Day activities
  • Essential services:A backup generator for the Water Treatment Plant
  • Family and youth support:Hinton Kids for Success
  • Support for older adults:Non‑medical home support for residents aged 55+, elder abuse prevention initiatives, and free tax return services for low‑income residents
  • Accessibility and transportation:Reduced‑rate transit passes for low‑income residents
  • Recreation and sustainability:Replacement of the recreation centre’s ammonia‑based ice plant with a more energy‑efficient system

Funding was provided through a mix of provincial, federal, and private sources.
