Wildfire prevention starts with us: Willow Creek Road is getting proactive care to safeguard our community.
The Willow Creek area has a high fire risk due to dense tree coverage, which increases hazards and attracts encampments. Its proximity to the mill’s wood chip pile adds to the danger, as the pile could ignite if a major fire spreads through the area.
The Town of Hinton partnered with West Fraser and Mondi to complete FireSmart work in the area. About 18 hectares — roughly 36 city blocks — were treated. Activities included selective tree felling, mulching, and removal of standing dead and fallen trees, following FireSmart Alberta practices and all local, provincial and federal regulations.
Harvested timber was donated to the graduating class of Harry Collinge High School to help raise funds for graduation.
The Town of Hinton remains committed to community safety. Ongoing FireSmart work improves preparedness and helps reduce wildfire hazards.
