[ARCHIVED] Outdoor Rinks: Season Update

Outdoor Rinks

Outdoor Skating in Hinton

The Town of Hinton is excited to bring outdoor skating to our community! Here's what you need to know about our outdoor rinks and the Pretzel skating track:

Outdoor Rinks:

  • Locations: Mary Reimer Park, Kinsmen Park, and Erith Park.
  • These rinks are free to use and will open soon, weather permitting.
  • Ice is created with thin layers of water to ensure quality and durability. Staff require consistent cold weather (highs of -5°C to -10°C during the day and colder at night) and minimal snowfall to begin preparations.
  • Snow clearing on paths, sidewalks, and roadways takes priority over rink maintenance.

How You Can Help:

Residents are welcome to clear snow from outdoor rink surfaces (at their own risk).

The Pretzel Skating Track:

  • A 600-meter ice loop located at the Hinton Campground near the Hinton Centre playground on Switzer Drive.
  • Open as long as weather conditions allow and free to use.
  • Skating only; no walking, pets, or group gatherings permitted.
  • No washrooms on-site; users are asked park in the playground parking lot.
  • Maintenance is weather-dependent and a lower priority than sidewalk snow clearing, so patience is appreciated after snowfalls.

Enjoy the Experience!

For a magical skating outing, visit the Pretzel or enjoy the other outdoor rinks once they are ready.

Please stay off the ice until it's fully set, and remember to skate safely at your own risk.
