Alberta Day is a time to recognize where we came from and celebrate what makes this province so unique — from its innovation and entrepreneurialism to its cultural heritage and strong community spirit.

Alberta Day Key Messages

  • Alberta Day is a chance to celebrate Alberta and all of the people living in this great province, to take stock of where we came from, to recognize the Indigenous Peoples who cared for the land, and to show pride in what we have achieved.

  • 120 years ago, on September 1, 1905, the province of Alberta was established through the Alberta Act.

  • This date provides all people living in Alberta with the opportunity to celebrate what defines the province – innovation, entrepreneurialism, cultural heritage and community spirit.

  • Alberta’s story includes and honours the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples who have lived on and cared for this land for generations.

  • This year, you are invited to take part in free Alberta Day celebrations across the province.
