Project Background

To provide our community with further information on the ongoing Maxwell Lake Bridge Project, we have compiled important information into one CivicSend.

This notice has been updated a fourth time to account for weather dependant landscaping work still outstanding.

Project Location: Maxwell Lake Bridge
Construction Budget:  $400,000.00
Construction Time Frame: All project components completed in Early Spring 2019
Note: The construction of this project will subject to weather considerations and season.

Scope of Work

The Scope of Work (SOW) is the area in an agreement where the work to be performed is described.

The Scope of Work (SOW) to be performed is as follows.

  • Remove and dispose of existing pedestrian bridge;
  • Supply and install new bridge and footings; and
  • Landscaping for trail connection and bridge access.

Project Understanding:

The Town of Hinton as approved the replacement of the Maxwell Lake Bridge in the 2018 Town of Hinton Capital Budget. The previous pedestrian bridge was slumping into the wetland and was structurally compromised, making it no longer safe for public use.

The new bridge profile is raised higher to support the water flow changes in the Maxwell Lake from year to year. The bridge has been designed to support and enable those with mobility aids to access the bridge. The bridge design supports equipment for boardwalk maintenance by Town of Hinton in areas that were not readily accessible throughout the year.

Project Partners:

From conception through to construction completion, the Town of Hinton and ISL Engineering and Land Services, work in partnership to design, engineer and deliver a project on schedule and budget. Sure-Seal, the General Contractor, is the successful bidder for this project and will be carrying out the scope of work

Construction Factors:

We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation over the course of the previous construction activity.

At this time, impact to area visitors going forward is expected to be minimal, with only landscaping and cleanup work outstanding. Further closure in the area is not anticipated, though there may be some minor impact to path travelers while landscaping is in progress.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Planning and Development directly on the matter.
