Holiday and New Years Refuse Collection, Drop Offs and Hours 

During this holiday season there will be some disruption to the garbage collection service, recycling centre hours, and landfill schedule. 

Garbage Collection and Temporary Bin Placement
On Tuesday and Wednesday, December 25 & 26, there will be no garbage collection.  Regular service will resume on Thursday, December 27.  Residents that normally have their garbage collected on Tuesday, January 1st, will be collected on Monday, December 31st, 2018.  Please have your containers out by 7:00 a.m. with wheels furthest away from the curb. 

For customers that are affected by the holiday schedule, we will be placing roll off bins at selected sites to provide an alternative to dispose of your waste.  Please ensure that your waste is bagged and tied to reduce litter.  The bins will be available from December 22, 2018 until January 2nd, 2019.  These bins are for waste only, not recycling products!  

For residents living in the Valley and East Hardisty, two roll off bins will be placed at Jeles (Hardisty & Drinnan Way).  Residents living in Thompson Lake, may access a roll off bin on McArdell Drive off of Highway 16.  Residents living in the Eaton and Muldoon area may use the roll off bins located on Eaton Drive.

Rowan Street Recycling Hours and Staffing
The gates will be open at the recycling depot on Rowan Street from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Monday, Dec 24, Open on December 25 but not staffed, Open Dec 26 from 10-3 p.m. then regular hours resume on Dec 27.  Gates open again January 1, 2019 but not staffed.  

Effective December 1st, winter hours at the Recycle Depot are Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.  

Please remember to recycle all wrapping paper in the mixed paper bins, and cardboard and box board to be flattened and placed in the cardboard bins.  This will reduce the amount of garbage placed in your own bins.

Customers may choose to bring their waste directly to the West Yellowhead Regional Landfill as well.  Please note that the Landfill hours of operation are:

  • Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Closed Sundays and Holidays. 

The Landfill is opened Monday, Dec 24th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Closed Dec 25 and 26.  Regular hours resume Dec 27th.  Dec 31 hours will be 9 am-4 pm Closed January 1st and regular hours resume Jan 2, 2019.
