Town Welcomes Cultural Exchange Participants

Yesterday (August 21, 2018), the Town of Hinton was proud to welcome an envoy from our sister city in Japan Gifu Prefecture, Wanouchi.

Six students and two teachers, along with local families, teachers, and exchange participants, were welcomed by Town of Hinton Mayor Marcel Michaels alongside Town Staff. Over the course of the day, the envoy and local accompaniment were given tours of the Government Centre, the RCMP Building, and then the Protective Services building, where a gift exchange took place.

The Town of Hinton is proud to continue our region's cultural exchange alongside our partners at the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division, and look forward to a continued exchange of cultures and education in the future.

Since 1998, GYPSD has welcomed an envoy from Wanouchi to Hinton annually, with students from Harry Collinge visiting in return every other year. The Town of Hinton is proud to be apart of their experience in our region.

Over the last ten years, a number of gifts have been exchanged with the Town; some of these pieces are on display in the Government Centre Foyer display case, while others are on display in the Mayor's office. In addition, a lantern and placard with the partnerships history (pictured above) is installed near the entrance of Government Centre.
