Scheduled Pipeline Maintenance on existing Trans Mountain Pipeline Near Dow Drive - Hinton, AB October 24-25, 2017*
This message was received by the Town of Hinton from Kinder Morgan Canada Limited and then reshared through our CivicSend Client.
You are receiving this notice as a neighbour of our existing Trans Mountain Pipeline. As part of our ongoing pipeline safety program, we will be completing scheduled maintenance on our pipeline near Dow Drive in Hinton, AB (see map on reverse). The work is scheduled to occur between October 24 and 25, 2017.* The work is an integral part of our proactive approach to ensuring pipeline safety and reliability, as well as public safety and protection of the environment.
The work is not related to the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.
The work will involve installing a new valve on the existing pipeline. During this work, the pipeline will be shut down and a segment of it will be drained of oil. To purge the pipeline and remove any residual petroleum product before conducting the maintenance activities, nitrogen will be injected in to the pipeline— a harmless inert gas that makes up four-fifths of the air we breathe. The new valve will then be installed along the pipeline. Once the work is complete, the pipeline will be returned to service.
During this timeframe, neighbours may notice equipment, increased activity and intermittent construction-related noise near the work site. The work will take place during evening and overnight hours.
We conduct our work under Environmental Protection and Emergency Response Plans to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and requirements. All work will be conducted under applicable permits and bylaws. We appreciate your patience as we work as quickly as possible to complete our maintenance activities in a safe manner with as little disturbance as possible.
