Garbage Collection Reminder

After noticing some improperly placed garbage receptacles recently, the Infrastructure Services Division is looking to remind all Hintonites of the proper bin placement procedure for black roll off carts.

If you have a black roll off cart, please place the container on the street by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day with the wheels away from the curb/driveway. If your container is not placed out properly, the bin could fall into the truck and cause damage to the truck and possible injury to the operator. Also, during the winter months, please remove snow from the top of the garbage bins as this causes problems with the compaction of the garbage.

Two more important things to be aware of:

  • Do not place black bins near vehicles (or do not park vehicle next to black bin)
  • Do not place black bins out side by side (close to another bin).

Bins not placed out correctly will not be picked up!

Please refer to these images for an example of correct and incorrect curbside placement.

All customers who dispose of waste into blue metal containers or the black roll off carts must place their waste as per Bylaw 933.  It is an offense to place prohibited waste in the garbage containers.

Please note the following:

  • All waste should be properly bagged.
  • Double bag animal waste.
  • Do not place hot ashes into the containers.
  • Cold ashes should be bound or packaged and placed in container in such a manner as to avoid spillage or blowing during dumping operations.
  • Garbage placed outside the container will not be collected.
  • Bulky and extra heavy materials (example: sod, dirt, concrete, etc.) cannot be placed in the garbage container.
  • Do not dispose of hazardous materials in container.
  • Lids must be closed to reduce litter issues.
  • Recycle all paper fibre in recycling bins at Rowan Street.
  • Yard Waste can be recycled at the Landfill or Rowan Street in the compost pile.

Residents are also asked to remember to remove your container from the street at the end of the day.

We would like to thank you for your cooperation and assistance.  If you have any questions, please phone the Town of Hinton Infrastructure Services Department at 780-865-2634.
