Citizens' Minute with Council

Residents are welcome to speak to Council about issues, events, celebrations or concerns during Minute with Council. At the beginning of each regular Council Meeting, Mayor Mackin opens the floor to the public to speak and share with Council members, administration and meeting observers.

Don Harrison spoke to Council, raising concerns over a function of the Town of Hinton website. He was informed that the Town is well aware of the problem, and that the concern is being dealt with through service provider CivicPlus.

Action Items

1. 2017 Interim Budget - Presented by Denise Parent
Town Council approved an interim budget for the Town of Hinton, in order to authorize ongoing operational expenses in 2017 until the adoption of the operating budget as per section 242 of the MGA.

2. Request to Reduce Property Tax Penalties - Presented by Denise Parent
Trican requested a reduction of 30% on their property taxes to allow them to compete effectively in the local market until they regain financial stability in the industry. Council declined the request, offering sympathy to Trican but speaking to the precedence that approving this request would set. 

3.Proposed Memorandum of Agreement - 2017-2019 Collective Agreement - Presented by Mike Schwirtz
Council approved, subject to union ratification, the Memorandum of Agreement between the Town of Hinton and Unifor, Local 855, as included in the agenda package; Doing so authorizes members of the Town’s negotiating committee to sign a 2017-2019, three (3) year collective agreement. Council thanked the bargaining committee for their work in finding an amicable solution for the Town and it's Staff. 

Council/CAO Reporting

All Councillors and CAO Shwirtz offered seasons greetings, and encouraged all residents to take advantage of the holidays to join together with family and friends.

Holiday and New Years Residential Garbage Collection
During this holiday season there will be some disruption to the garbage collection service. Please note that Monday and Tuesday, December 26 & 27, there will be no garbage collection service. Regular service will commence on Wednesday, December, 28th. Click here for more information.
