Council Advocates for Hinton PrioritiesNovember 18, 2025 Hinton Town Council had several productive days at the Alberta Municipalities Conference in Calgary last week. Members of Council met with colleagues from across the province, shared best practices, and strengthened relationships with neighbouring municipalities. Council also advanced Hinton’s key advocacy priorities in meetings with several provincial ministers and agencies, including the ministers of Municipal Affairs, Public Safety and Emergency Services, Forestry and Parks, Infrastructure, and the RCMP. Discussions focused on: - The province’s approach to municipal legislative changes and opportunities for better collaboration
- The future of municipal codes of conduct
- Disaster relief funding and additional compensation related to the 2023 wildfires
- Support for a fire guard on the south side of Hinton, along the highway bypass
- Advocacy for an additional provincially funded RCMP member for the Hinton detachment
Council was pleased to see Hinton’s provincial resolution—calling for increased eligibility and funding for the Alberta Affordability Grant for licensed child-care programs—passed by Alberta Municipalities. Council appreciated the opportunity to work directly with provincial partners on issues that matter to Hinton and will continue pushing for outcomes that strengthen the community.
