Town of Hinton 60th Anniversary Green Square Cougar Statue

Cougar on the Hinton Sign

For decades, the cougar has represented Hinton. From Athacat (the Town mascot) to the actual cougar posing atop the old Welcome to Hinton sign, the cougar has always been part of Hinton.

The cougar statue in Green Square is slated to be installed this Thursday morning, October 27, at 8:30 am. The Timber Kings television show will be filming the installation, as well as some interviews with the Mayor and Town staff, at this time and following installation as well.

There will be a slight disruption in access around Green Square on Thursday, as a portion of one lane on Gregg Avenue will be closed to allow for unloading of the equipment, carving, and other operations related to the installation.

Timber Kings

A statue of a cougar has been envisioned for Green Square for years. This amazing work of art would stand out and be seen by the thousands of locals and visitors alike who pass by this busy location each day.
Local woodworker, Roger Roy wanted to help make this dream and vision a reality. Over the past year, he has been working with the world-famous Timber Kings out of Williams Lake, BC to develop a one-of-a-kind log carving for Hinton.

We have been approached by numerous local businesses and individuals about providing donations to help make this a reality. Thank you to all who have already contributed to making this dream a reality. If you and your business would like to get involved, there is still time to make contributions to the project. There are three separate sponsorship levels, and donors will be forever acknowledged on a donor plaque at the site.

Bronze Sponsor:              $500 - $999
Silver Sponsor:                 $1000 – 2499
Gold Sponsor:                  $2500 +
