2025 Lifetime Achievement Award

As part of Seniors Week, the Town of Hinton is proud to honour the outstanding individuals nominated for this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Each of these nominees has made a lasting difference in our community through years of dedicated service.

Nominees:

Marj Luger

Marj has been an active volunteer across many boards, including HELP, the Historic Museum, and HADSANS. As Executive Director of the Yellowhead Emergency Shelter for over 30 years, she has supported countless women and children in crisis. Marj is a passionate community historian and photographer who consistently gives her time to others.

Betty Mackay

For over 60 years, Betty has volunteered in schools, churches, and at the curling rink. A Lifetime Member of the Hinton Curling Club, Betty has worn every hat—from organizer to cleaner to coach—and continues to serve with enthusiasm, despite being legally blind.

Randy Smith

Randy’s decades of service include Victim Services, the Boys and Girls Club, local churches, and launching Pickleball in Hinton. Known for his fundraising spirit and can-do attitude, Randy’s volunteer work has shaped numerous programs and positively impacted many people in our community.

Ted Peterson

Ted supports Hinton’s most vulnerable through organizations like Neighbourlink, HANDS, Grace Church, and the Resident Care Foundation. He’s known for going the extra mile—repairing equipment, delivering beds, and mentoring those in need. His kindness speaks louder than words.

Bernie Kreiner


This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award goes to Bernie Kreiner—a lifelong volunteer, leader, and advocate.

Bernie’s legacy includes over 30 years with the Rotary Club, food security work with the Hinton Food Bank, mentoring through Toastmasters, and organizing countless community hikes, canoe trips, and service projects. He leads by example, with humility, vision, and commitment to others.

Those who know Bernie describe him as someone who lives by the golden rule, values respect over popularity, and always leads by example. His tireless dedication has improved lives, built community spirit, and left a lasting mark on Hinton.
