****TEST*** EMERGENCY EXERCISE UPDATE 2: 11:15AM
May 3, 2025
Emergency Services in Hinton, including the Town of Hinton, RCMP, Hinton Fire and Hinton Search and Rescue are conducting a comprehensive exercise.
A simulated incident is being enacted, leading to a coordinated response involving all emergency services. The exercise is designed to test and enhance the preparedness, communication, and response capabilities of our emergency services in a controlled manner.
This event is a simulated scenario and does not pose any threat to residents.
This message is a test of Town of Hinton communication systems.
Due to the (simulated) risk of the (mock) wildfire, residents and visitors in the following area should be prepared to evacuate in less than 30 minutes (if you choose to participate in the exercise).
This mock evacuation alert is for the Town of Hinton.
What you should do (if you choose to take part):
- Confirm a meeting place for all family members or coworkers if a (test) evacuation order is called
- Ensure personal Grab-and-go kits/backpacks are ready for quick departure – including essential items such as medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (i.e. insurance), immediate care needs for dependents and, if you choose, keepsakes (photographs etc). Have these items readily available for a quick departure
- Consider in advance moving any disabled person and/or children to a safe area
- Move pets and livestock to a safe area
- Arrange to transport your household members or coworkers in the event of a (test) evacuation order (and you choose to take part)
- Arrange accommodations for your family if possible. In the event of a (mock) evacuation, emergency accommodation will be provided if required.
- Monitor the Town of Hinton website for information on (simulated) reception centre location and status of (test) evacuation orders.
If a (test) evacuation order is issued and you (choose to) evacuate:
- Watch Town of Hinton channels for updates and follow instructions from local emergency officials (if you choose to participate)
- Take Grab and Go kits/backpacks
- Wear clothes and shoes appropriate for the conditions
- Lock your home
- Follow the routes specified by emergency officials
- If you have time, leave a note telling others where you left and where you went.
- If you have time, turn off all outside water sprinklers so water is conserved for (test) firefighting efforts.
- Once you have left the (simulated) evacuation area, register at the (simulated) emergency reception centre (location TBC).
This (mock) alert issued at on May 3, 2025, 11:15am will remain in effect for seven days until May 10, 2025, at 11:15 a.m. unless cancelled by the Town of Hinton.
