Town of Hinton 60th Anniversary Green Square Cougar Statue

For decades, the cougar has represented Hinton. From Athacat (the Town mascot) to the actual cougar posing atop the old Welcome to Hinton sign, the cougar has always been part of Hinton.

A statue of a cougar has been envisioned for Green Square for years. This amazing work of art would stand out and be seen by the thousands of locals and visitors alike who pass by this busy location each day.
Local woodworker, Roger Roy wanted to help make this dream and vision a reality. Over the past year, he has been working with the world-famous Timber Kings out of Williams Lake, BC to develop a one-of-a-kind log carving for Hinton.

Timber Kings

For Hinton’s 60th Anniversary, Council approved this project in 2016. Over the next few weeks you will begin to see the foundation for this carving take shape in Green Square. In October, the television show "The Timber Kings" will be filming on-site in Hinton as they begin to construct and set up this feature piece.
We have been approached by numerous local businesses and individuals about providing donations to help make this a reality. We have opened this up to our business community for participation in further sponsorship opportunities. There are three separate sponsorship levels for this project and donors will be forever acknowledged on a donor plaque at the site.
