Participatory Budget Trails Update

Last year, as part of Hinton's Participatory Budgeting process, $100,000 was identified by Town of Hinton residents for use expanding on the community's Master Trail Plan.

Over the summer months, Parks staff have been establishing new trails and making upgrades to existing trails in the community, and next week, we'll be opening the pathways and showing off what 2015 Hinton PB voters chose for their community. On September 19, 2016, you can join the Mayor and Town of Hinton Staff as we officially open the new trails in Mary Reimer Park. The opening ceremony will be held near the north parking lot, where the new North Trail starts.

Mary Reimer Park Improvements

Mary Reimer Park received the bulk of upgrades as an area where multiple new pathways were needed, could easily be established, and could be completed within allotted funding. Three pathways were completed in this area; see the images and descriptions below for more information

North Trail Pathway

The North Trail, shown above, establishes a new walking path from the north parking lot towards the dog park. The pathway connects with existing pathways for travel between the rodeo grounds or baseball diamonds.

The South Trail, shown below, establishes a walking route from the south parking lot up to the rodeo grounds, and includes an outlet to provide easier access to the baseball diamonds,

South Trail
The final trail completed in Mary Reimer Park, the West Trail (see map below), travels from the south parking lot over to the westmost corner of the park, past the soccer fields, where it joins with the existing walkway to the north parking lot.

As a result of efficiencies created by the Town managing these upgrades, including hiring casual workers to do the work in house using Town equipment, some PB funds were left over upon completion of the Mary Reimer Park trails. These funds were applied in the Beaver Boardwalk area, where a pair of trails received rehabilitation work in early September.

For More Information

Please attend the opening of the trails in Mary Reimer Park on September 19 2016 at 2:30 pm. Staff will be gathering in the North Parking Lot for the grand opening.

If you have any questions regarding the new trails, or their use, please contact info@hinton.ca and someone will respond to your query as soon as possible.
