New Waterslide Makes a Splash

The Town of Hinton is proud to announce the successful grand opening of the highly anticipated Vortex Waterslide at the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre. 

The new slide was installed during the annual pool maintenance shutdown this fall. It is a S.R Smith Vortex waterslide, standing over 10 feet tall and delivering up to 30 gallons of water per minute.

A grand opening event was held on Thursday, October 10, to unveil the slide to the community. Admission was by donation to the Hinton Food Bank, and a raffle was held to determine who would be the first person to slide down the exciting new addition. The event was a great success, drawing in many community members for a night of fun, excitement, and giving back. 

Deputy Mayor Stuart Taylor said a few words before cutting the ribbon for the new slide and announcing the raffle winner. Shea H took the honour of the first ride down in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

“This new waterslide is an exciting addition to our Recreation Centre, and we were thrilled to see so many families come out to celebrate with us,” said Deputy Mayor Taylor. “The community’s generous donations to the Hinton Food Bank showed once again that we come together not only for fun but for a great cause.”

The waterslide installation has been a long-awaited addition to the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre and was made possible by contributions from local partners, including the Kinsmen Club through a community fundraiser. 

The Town extends thanks to the Kinsmen Club for their continued support and fundraising efforts, as well as to the contractors and Town staff for their dedication in bringing this project to life.

The Town of Hinton is proud to offer this new, fun-filled amenity to our residents and looks forward to seeing the community enjoy the waterslide for years to come.
