Resignation Announcement 

Mayor Marcel Michaels

On Monday, August 28, 2023, Mayor Michaels announced his resignation as the Mayor of Hinton, marking the end of his tenure, effective immediately. 

With a decade of dedicated service on Council with six years as Mayor, Marcel will be joining a new municipality as their Chief Administrative Officer. 

On behalf of Council and Administration, as Deputy Mayor of Hinton, I would like to express our gratitude to Marcel for his commitment to the betterment of Hinton. As he embarks on this new chapter of his career, we extend heartfelt best wishes to Marcel and his family. 

As a result of Mayor Michaels resignation, in accordance with the Municipal Government Act (MGA), Section 163, the vacancy must be filled. As per legislation, MGA Section 165, the by-election will take place within 120 days from the date of resignation. More information will be made available from our administration shortly. 

In closing, thank you again, Marcel, for everything you’ve done to help make Hinton a better place for us all. May your future endeavors be filled with success and fulfillment. William James once said, 'The greatest use of a life is to spend it on something that will outlast it.' I feel you have done just that and will continue to do so in your new position. Congratulations!
