Fort McMurray Wildfire
The Town of Hinton is taking immediate steps to provide support to Ft. McMurray and the Wood Buffalo area.

During the May 3, Council meeting Council passed a resolution to ‘permit Hinton Fire Rescue to provide resources as necessary to help support Ft. McMurray with respect to the current fire situation underway’.

The Hinton RCMP detachment and Hinton Fire Rescue are sending resources to Ft McMurray.

All of the Town’s available resources and contact information are listed with the Provincial Operations Center (POC).  We are on standby to provide more assistance if and when we are requested.  As of 10:30 am today the POC is not requiring further resources from us.  As the situation develops that may change and we will be ready.

The Red Cross has asked that clothing and other personal effects not be sent their way and instead are asking people to make cash donations.  A direct link is on their website at www.redcross.ca.

The Town of Hinton is willing and ready to provide whatever support is necessary to the residents of Ft McMurray and Wood Buffalo.  Our thoughts go out to all of those affected by this event and we wish the best possible outcome for that community.

Fire Restriction

Residents are reminded that a Fire restriction is now in effect for Alberta’s forested areas including the Edson Forest Area.  The fire restriction prohibits open fires on private land, backcountry and random camping areas. This means safe campfires are only allowed in fire rings in campgrounds.
