Around the World in 5 Days
Day 1: The Philippines
August 8, 2022
Join us on a journey celebrating the cultures that shape Hinton’s diverse community at a five-day festival, Around the World in Five Days.
In partnership with Discovery Camp, the Government of Canada Department of Heritage is providing our community with this first annual festival designed to engage the youth of our town in embracing the spirit of multiculturalism and giving community members a chance to come together to share their culture and learn about their neighbours’ culture.
Around the World in Five Days will take place at Gordon Moore Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day from August 8 to 12. Each day will focus on a different culture, representative of the wonderful Town of Hinton, and honour that culture with traditional games, crafts, and foods.
Today! Monday, August 8: The Philippines
The first stop on our around-the-world trip is the Philippines.
This morning, take part in Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego activities by making salt dough maps and tracing continents on Bristol board. Also, take part in Magandang Hapon activities: Sarimanok, a legendary bird of the Maranao people, and inlay boxes.
This afternoon, there will be traditional Filipino games including Luksong Baka, similar to leapfrog, Agawan Base, similar to Capture the Flag, and Patintero, a ball game. Plus, take part in the first stage of The Amazing Race.
Food will be provided by Wow Chow Bakery and Margo’s Filipino Rolls.
