Spring Trail Maintenance

 
Town of Hinton trails will soon be getting their annual spruce-up, ready for all users to enjoy for the rest of the year.

Each spring, Town crews locate problem areas on trails and repair them – usually with gravel that is hauled in on utility vehicles and then packed down.

Due to freezing temperatures and wet weather through April and May, this year’s maintenance has been slightly delayed. Trails are currently wet and muddy and need time to dry before driving utility vehicles over them as this will damage the ground further.

But with warmer weather on the horizon and street sweeping nearly complete, freeing up utility vehicles and workers, trail maintenance will take place soon.

In the meantime, please avoid muddy areas of trails to prevent trail widening and erosion.

From Hinton Mountain Bike Association (HMBA):

• Hinton Bike Park will open this weekend (May 14).
• New trails Flowmaster, TM Sender and Send Me Up will remain closed as they need more time to dry out sufficiently following freezing and rainy conditions.

• The Bighorn Trail will be closed until June 1 or until trail conditions allow for opening. HMBA will provide updates closer to the date.

• Please respect these closures as riding on closed trails can delay the opening and damages can be costly.
