Construction Completed at Beaver Boardwalk April 6, 2022
Construction work has been completed on two areas of the Beaver Boardwalk and they are now open for the public to enjoy! A section of the boardwalk at the Sutherland Avenue entrance and a second stretch in the Town Trail/Boardwalk connection area were closed March 29, 2022. The contracted crew removed wooden piles, put screw piles in place, and replaced and repaired the decking. Thanks to the efficient coordination of the work, an expanded crew, working through the weekend, and the cooperative weather, the project was completed in just seven days. This Beaver Boardwalk rehabilitation project was approved by Council in 2021, with an amendment made in early 2022 and financed through the Municipal Stimulus Program Grant from the Province of Alberta. It was scheduled to start in November 2021 but was delayed due to unsuitable weather conditions and unsafe ice thickness. Over the next few months, the Town will conduct further maintenance work on other open areas of the boardwalk. This will be less intensive and intrusive work that can proceed while the boardwalk remains open. No further closures are planned for 2022 at this time. The Maxwell Lake Bridge Project is being retendered as per Council’s direction on February 22, 2022, and sections of the boardwalk currently closed to the public are under discussion by the Beaver Boardwalk Community Oversight Committee (BBOC). The Town of Hinton is delighted to have this Beaver Boardwalk rehabilitation project completed, in order for residents and visitors to enjoy this iconic local amenity through spring and beyond.
