WHY: Council will hear submissions from interested persons or their representatives in respect of proposed Short Term Rentals Bylaw No. 1162What is proposed to change? Written submissions are preferred, or if you wish to attend in person to speak or online, you may pre-register via e-mail to lwalker@hinton.ca by 12:00 noon, Monday, March 7, 2022.
Submissions received 6 days or less from the date of Public Hearing will be read into the record at the beginning of the Public Hearing prior to the hearing of any online submissions. Submissions received earlier than 6 days from the date of Public Hearing can be examined at the Government Centre and will be included in the Public Hearing agenda.
Are you a Host/Operator of a Short-Term Rental?
Some of the requirements for a host/operator are:
Can only be operated within the principal residence; the home where you live
A Business License and a Home-Based Business Development Permit will be required
A Fire Prevention Inspection will be required
Provision for one (1) off-street parking space per guest room will be required
Display one (1) non-illuminated sign/sticker, on the exterior of the accommodation that is visible from the road, identifying the property as an approved short-term rental
Display business license, emergency contact & evacuation plan inside the entryway to the short-term rental
Ensure compliance with Alberta Building Code, Alberta Fire Code & Alberta Health Services
Ensure hard-wired interconnected smoke & carbon monoxide detectors are installed and a clearly marked fire extinguisher is readily available
Only rent up to four (4) guest rooms each of which can be occupied by a maximum of two persons, not including minors
Establish “house rules” for your guests such as reduce noise and disruptions at night
Existing Host/Operators will be provided up to six (6) months from the date of the bylaw to register your short-term rental with the Town of Hinton. All applicable fees will be waived for this duration only!
