Once we re-open, the time-period for extensions for pass holders will be reviewed and applied. Comeback passes will also be addressed.
The closure of the Arenas remains until at least January 21, 2021.
Staff is maintaining and preparing your facility to be ready and open up again if enhanced measures are lifted.
To arrange emergency access to arena lockers, please call Customer Service at the Recreation Centre for support. If you have any observations, requests, or concerns about outdoor recreation facilities, please use the MyHinton App 24/7 and follow the directions for your submission. You can also contact our department by phone during office hours (780-865-2634).
With closures of indoor recreational facilities in place, our parks, open spaces and trails are more important than ever for all Hintonites to use for recreational activities, exercise and enjoyment to support mental health.
Our Arenas/Parks crew is working outside, including the weekends, to keep trails and other outdoor recreation facilities maintained for our users.
With the slightly colder weather in the past weeks they prepared our outdoor rinks and they are already open and ready for usage.
Check out the outdoor rinks which are located in:
- Kinsmen Park (kids rink)
- Mary Reimer Regional Park (kids rink)
- Erith Park (Hockey rink and kids rink)
Due to the extension of the provincial restrictions the dates for swimming lessons for Winter 2021 have been adjusted. Please see the changed schedule in PDF version of Comserv #17 issue.

The Pretzel - a new & awesome skating track in Hinton!
In cooperation with Maintenance, Public Works, and Arena staff, our Parks crew members are excited and proud to announce a new initiative for all skaters to enjoy. Nestled among the trees in the Hinton Campground, located next to the playground at the Hinton Centre on Switzer Drive, residents can now find a 600 meter ice track!
Here's some key important information:
• Open as long as the weather conditions allow
• Free to use
• Area is for skating; please do not walk on the track
• Picnic tables are available; users are requested to bring own hand sanitizer
• No washrooms are available
• No pets are permitted; this restriction preserves skate track conditions and user safety
• Use at your own risk to self and equipment - tree debris and pebbles could be on the track
• Please wait after fresh snowfalls until the snow is cleared and after new floods (water/soft ice) to use
o Maintenance in this area is a lower priority than sidewalk and other snow clearing needs.
o Please be patient after snowfalls and new floods so that the Pretzel surface is not compromised
• Users are asked to park in playground parking lot;
o Please do not block the campground entry way.
Come and check out this magical experience!
Note: please respect COVID-19 restrictions and do not gather in groups.
It can be busy out there at certain times, so maybe venture out to a different location or find a quieter time in the day for you or your household. Don't forget, in addition to the Pretzel, there are other outdoor skating opportunities including the outdoor rinks at the Town-maintained Erith Park, Mary Reimer Regional Park and Kinsmen Park, as well as at the volunteer-maintained Maxwell Lake oval. When safe snow cover conditions allow, we will re-open the Toboggan hills at Collinge Road and the Hinton Centre. Stay tuned!
As of December 13, 2020, new restrictions and limitations are in effect until at least January 21, 2021. For the full listing of new provincial restrictions visit the Provincial website at: Stronger public health measures | Alberta.ca.

It is Family Literacy Day on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. It is recognized annually to celebrate adults and children reading and learning together, and to encourage Canadian families to spend at least fifteen minutes a day enjoying a learning activity together.
