NEW Caregiver Education Support Services through the Family Resource Network

May 19, 2020

The Town of Hinton is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a three-year grant to provide Caregiver Education and Support Services for the Hinton community. This grant was provided through the provincial Family Resource Network, and Hinton is part of the West Yellowhead Family Resource Network.

The Caregiver Education Coordinator is a part-time grant-funded position that offers education and support to caregivers to increase their capacity to create safe, responsive, and nurturing environments and encourage healthy child development. This role will involve: developing and presenting workshops; liaising with local, regional, and provincial partners; offering one-on-one support to caregivers; and offering education and resources to families.

Help Guide Our Programming

In March, the Town of Hinton was awarded a three-year grant to offer Caregiver Education and Support Services through one part-time position. The Caregiver Education Coordinator is a part-time grant-funded position that offers education and support to caregivers to increase their capacity to create safe, responsive, and nurturing environments and encourage healthy child development. As we develop caregiver education and support programming, we wanted to ensure our new services reflect the needs of our community.

Please take a few minutes to complete this brief survey to let us know, as a caregiver, what supports and services would benefit you.

COVID-19 Services

During COVID-19, we are offering modified services to ensure families are supported during the pandemic. Current services include:
  • Mother’s First Group
    • First-time moms have extra challenges of isolation and limited supports during the pandemic. This group offers a safe space where first-time moms with children under one can come together to talk about being a new parent during COVID-19. This group will give new moms the opportunity to build community connections with other new moms and to learn about different techniques, tools, and resources.
      • Sessions are held every second Tuesday (starting on May 26) – learn more here.
  • 1-1 Caregiver Support
    • Join our Caregiver Education Coordinator in a non-judgmental space to talk about the challenges and joys of parenting, to work through specific parenting challenges, and to develop a customized parenting workplan. Sessions are based on educational trainings such as the Positive Parenting Program, Kids Have Stress Too, Talk Box, and Ages and Stages Questionnaires.
      • Meetings are scheduled based on availability – read more here.
