2020-2022 Collective Agreement

On December 17, 2019, Hinton Town Council made motion: 

"That Council approves, subject to Union ratification, the attached Memorandum of Agreement between the Town of Hinton and Unifor, Local 855, regarding the three (3) year collective agreement for 2020 - 2022."

This motion carried. On the morning of December 18, 2019, it was confirmed that the Unifor union members voting body had ratified the collective agreement. 

The bargained agreement with Unifor, Local 855 is a three (3) year agreement that meets the principles set out by the Town Negotiation Committee. These principles include:

  • Fascial responsibility;
  • Safety;
  • Exceptional Customer Service;
  • Attracting and retaining quality employees; and
  • Fostering positive working relationships.
The changes to the collective agreement are designed to support the above principles and to support the ongoing goals of preserving a positive working relationship while maintaining the flexibility required by the employer to continue to improve service delivery and reduce costs. The agreement is for a three (3) year term. The wage package includes a 1.9% increase in year one, a 1.9% increase in year two, and a 1.5% increase in year three. Minor increases to boot allowance and LTD benefits were also negotiated. We believe this provides a wage and benefit package that makes the Town of Hinton a desirable place to work.

Not retroactivity of pay will be required and the financial implications have already been incorporated into the 2020 Budget process. This agreement supports the needs of the community and those of our valued employees.
