FireSmart™ work begins in the Hillcrest area of Hinton on Monday, Feb. 23.
Hinton Fire Rescue, together with a contractor and with funding from the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA), will begin a FireSmart™ project in the Hillcrest area.
Crews will work in the area south of Fairfax Drive, between Robb Road and the Beaver Boardwalk, around the perimeter of Woodlawn Cemetery, and along the paved trail that connects Switzer Drive to Mountain Street. The cross‑hatched areas on the attached map show the locations where work will take place. The lighter green areas are re‑treatment zones, and the darker areas are new treatment zones.
Most of the work will involve chainsaws and hand tools, with very little equipment in use. Prescribed burning may occur if weather conditions allow. The project is expected to take no more than 28 days.
The parking lot at the Mountain Bike Park has been identified as a staging area for the contractor to use, therefore the parking lot will be closed to the public until project completion. Patrons can use the Frisbee course parking lot on the east side of Robb Rd.
Active work areas will be flagged and closed to the public. Please follow all posted signs and avoid the area for your safety.
