A new pilot project, Take It or Leave It, gives Hintonites the opportunity to donate their used household items and pick up others for free.

The Take It or Leave It facility was spearheaded by Council in the 2022/23 fiscal year for a 90-day pilot project in an effort to reduce landfill waste.

Items accepted include wood, windows, hand tools, shelving, cupboards, mirrors, lamps, lighting fixtures and other small household items like taps, faucets, and door handles.

Other goods including clothes, large furniture, appliances, and mattresses will not be accepted. Items that are not accepted may be taken to the Share Shop, NeighbourLink, Then and Now, Full Circle, or other local used-goods facilities.

Take It or Leave It runs from May 10 to August 8, 2023, in a temporary facility located at land north of Rowan Street Recycling Centre.

Donated items should be dropped off on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the facility will be open to browse and pick up items (free) on Saturdays noon to 4 p.m. Please do not leave items outside the fence at any time. All items must be provided to the attendant.

More volunteers are needed for this project! If you are interested in volunteering at the Take It or Leave It facility or for further information, please contact Debbi Weber, Strategic Projects Facilitator, at 587-277-6695 or dweber@hinton.ca
