Recommended Swim Test
The Lifesaving Society's recommended swim test is a screening tool used at our facility to determine who can use the deep part of our pool without a life jacket or personal flotation device (PFD). It is to the discretion of the lifeguard(s) on duty as to who must perform the swim test for admission to the deep water. The swim test consists of the following sequence of skills:
Safe entry into shallow water
Swim 25 metres without stopping or resting in any style
Exit the pool from deep water
Jump (foot-first entry) into deep water
Recover and tread water for 30 seconds, maintaining mouth and nose above the water at all times
There are volunteer opportunities available at our facility. If you are interestedin becoming a volunteer, please contact the Aquatic Supervisor Alexa McEachern byemailor phone 780-740-8063.
