Modernized Waste Collection System
Town Council approved for Administration to move forward with the modernization of the Town's Waste Collection System and curbside pick up on July 14, 2020. As part of this initiative, all residence will have their current black or blue bins replaced with new ninety-six (96) gallon black bins. To facilitate this modernization of our Town's waste collection system, we ask residents to be patient as we work out the various situations where front curbside pick up is not possible for a variety of reasons. Infrastructure Services is aware of the areas that may present challenges and will be working with residents in those locations to determine the best solutions for bin placement.
In addition to this change in the waste collection system, Council approved alternate waste collection bin sizes. The feedback received from the residents that participated in the Modernized Waste Management Survey indicated interest in having the sixty-four (64) gallon bin option. This smaller bin is available upon request for those residents that do not need the standard ninety-six (96) gallon sized bin. If you are unsure of the difference in sizes, the ninety-six (96) gallon bin can hold the estimated waste for a 4 to 6 person household. The sixty-four (64) gallon bin can hold the estimated waste for a 3 to 4 person household.
In preparation for the replacement of all the remaining residential bins, the Town requests that all residential property owners fill out an application form ONLY if you would like to request the smaller sixty-four (64) gallon bin (Please see the form below).
Please have the forms returned to our office by April 23, 2021 to facilitate the next order of waste collection bins from the supplier.
The Municipal Waste Bylaw Schedule A - Fees and Levies has been approved by Council for 2021. Any adjustments to the fee schedule, as a result of the modernization of the waste collection system, may be presented to Council for approval for the 2022 budget year.
A letter will be sent out or hand delivered to your residence with specific dates regarding the waste bin replacement schedule in your area. Details will be provided indicating the last date of waste collection with your current bin, the date you will receive your new bin and the first date of collection with the new waste bin system.
